Our Current & Successful Projects

Steps towards Reconciliation (STR) project funded by Mennonite Central committee. Project area- Gulu, Lira, Kitgum, Oyam, Apac & Pader districts. This is a bridging fund for a second phase of the STR project to start in August 2011. The first phase which ran from April 2007 to May 2009 project focused on capacity building of 100 community mediators who in turn supported identification, mediation & conducting of over 400 traditional cleansing ceremonies for victims of conflict as a means of promoting reconciliation & forgiveness. Through dialogue meetings and community monitoring, the mediators identified community members with grievances  mediated and resolved the conflicts along with traditional & Local leaders. . Among issues addressed included: GBV- Domestic Violence, early marriages, land conflicts, land ownership. Funded by Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).

Follow up project on CBCO & Improving Coping Mechanisms & supporting Voluntary Return of IDPS in Northern Uganda Christian Aid. Over a 12 months period, the Project aims at strengthening capacity of 600 Vulnerable & War affected households to provide appropriate care & protection for at least 3,600 Orphans & Vulnerable children in return areas of Northern Uganda.  The Project also seeks to strengthen the capacity of CPA staff & BOT to implement quality programmes,  ensure better financial & narrative reporting and improve on governance & policy oversight of the organization respectively.

Youth Economic Empowerment Project funded by EU & Plan International: Seeks to increase decision-making and economic opportunities for marginalized youth in Lira District, contributing to community rehabilitation, reintegration and development. Specifically, it aims at supporting 1,500 young people in Lira District to acquire non-formal and vocational skills for job placement/self employment and also to equip additional 1,500 young people with the skills and confidence to engage with public and private sector actors and exercise their rights and responsibilities as citizens on issues affecting them as well as strengthen local training institutions and businesses (including master craftspersons) to offer market-orientated courses, apprenticeships and job placements.

Care and Protection for Children in Northern Uganda (2011 to 2014), With an overall goal of All boys and girls in Northern Uganda are protected against abuse, exploitation and violence. Its objectives are Community-based child protection systems prevent and respond to abuse, exploitation and violence against children affected by conflicts, emergencies and provide alternative care options for children without family care. (Strengthening the Child Protection Systems). The projects targets 32,850 children (8,213 children and 394 adults’ beneficiaries per year) to be supported by the project. The beneficiaries include children, CPCs, Police, OVC committees and community based services department at District and sub county level.

HOPE project is funded by Trust fund for Victims through Care International with an overall goal of strengthening Coping mechanism and resilience that promotes peaceful co existence of persons affected by conflict in N. Uganda. It objective is At least 1500 persons directly affected by the LRA conflict in targeted areas in 4 districts of Northern Uganda are socially & economically empowered to support the recovery, and are living in harmony by end of October 2011in Lira,  and Oyam Districts.

Improving Protection of Children and Consolidating Transition in Northern Uganda-IMPACT Project funded by SCIUG. The three year project goal is Improved Protection and Quality Education for Children that support their community reintegration and development in Northern Uganda. It targets 25,000 war-affected and other vulnerable children access community based care and protection services in a supportive and child empowering environment and 12,000 children benefit from quality education in a child friendly and safe learning environment.

Support to Safe Return and Reintegration of War-affected and other Vulnerable Children in Northern Uganda funded by SCIUG. The overall goal of the project is War-affected and other vulnerable children successfully reintegrated into their families and communities and enabled to lead normal lives. Objectives are: Capacities of community based child protection structures are strengthened to effectively monitor, report and respond to cases of abuse and support community reintegration  for 5,000 formerly abducted children ; 10,000 other vulnerable children  and 1,500 children expected to return from captivity in 4 districts of Northern Uganda. And socio-economic wellbeing of 5,000 formerly abducted children, 1,500 children who returned from captivity and other 10,000 vulnerable children and their families improved through provision of educational and vocational programmes, peace-building and reconciliation interventions and safe and dignified sources of income

Supporting Education Recovery for Northern Uganda Funded by SCIUG. By the end of 2011, 3000 children access improved quality education meeting national standards in a safe and protected learning environment. The objectives are; Improved quality of education for 3,000 children in SCIUG supported schools in a safe and protective learning environment by the end of 2011 & Increased access to quality primary education for 400 additional out of school children especially girls and children living with HIV/AIDS.

Paicho Self Help group project funded by KINDERNOTHILFE seeks to improve and consolidate on the trainings and business development skills to enable SHG members engage in viable businesses and support replication of this approach to the community, to further develop and increase SHGs and CLAs including development into federations as a durable solution to this approach, to bridge the gap identified during the training needs assessment conducted with the old 51 SHGs, to mainstream the SHG approach into CPA livelihood programmes. A project which is in its second year 54 SHG reaching out to 3066 children.
